The TIGER Scheme is open to all candidates who wish to obtain a professional qualification in vulnerability testing.
The Scheme provides flexibility through levels of qualification:
- Associate – an individual may become an Associate Member on successful completion of an approved examination or by submitting evidence of qualifications/experience. Associate Membership lasts for 3 years and is renewable
- Qualified Security Tester (QST) - this is the entry level qualification and is obtained after successfully passing a written examination set by the Examining Body or by submitting evidence of a recognized qualification (E.g. certain MSc courses). QST Membership lasts for 3 years and is renewable. •
- Senior Security Tester (SST) - attaining the qualification requires candidates to pass a practical examination demonstrating network security vulnerability analysis skills, and also to successfully pass an interview (a viva) in order to demonstrate both their understanding and their ability to communicate their findings. SST membership lasts for 3 years and is renewable on successful completion of the SST practical examination and viva.
- Specialist Practitioner. The Scheme allows for a number of market-driven specialist courses to provide assessment for in-depth technical testing skills. The first two areas selected for development are Wireless Networking and Web Applications
At the present time Associate and Qualified Practitioner status do not expire; however, it is likely that a revised QST examination with a practical element will be introduced, which will require QST Members to requalify after 3 years. Senior Security Tester status lasts for a period of three years; practitioners wishing to maintain their status must retake the test. The same applies to the specialist qualifications.
